Cons Of Medical Marijuana

Marijuana is a psychoactive drug that is illegal in most of the parts of the world. Marijuana possesses the same effects that cause after consuming alcohol and generates the same results that smoking cigarette does.  Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is the psychoactive chemical that majorly affects the brain and body. Along with this, there are 56 other chemicals also present in cannabis that are mostly harmful than helpful for the human body.

Marijuana is illegal under federal law. It is classified as Schedule 1 drug in the Controlled Substances Act, alongside heroin and various other drugs. The growth of marijuana is contained, and only a certain amount of cannabis is allowed to be grown. Here are the cons of  consuming marijuana or cannabis in any form,


1)Affects the lungs-

Smoking tobacco or even marijuana can cause severe lung damage. The smoke inhaled directly affect the tissues of the lung and weakens them causing respiratory problems. It affects both the smoker and the people near them. Passive smoking is a real danger as it affects the non-smoker just as it does the ones who smoke.


2) Affects Memory Power-

Constant use of marijuana affects the short term memory power of a person. It restricts blood flow to the brain thus affecting memory storage and the capability to think. It even affects the body balance of a person thus making them prone to all types of dangers.



3) Marijuana is Addictive-

Marijuana is highly addictive when consumed regularly.  Withdrawal of marijuana is seen causing symptoms like anxiety and irritability that affects the behavioral aspects of a person. It makes them harmful to themselves and the people around them.


4) Alters thinking and perception-

Driving under the influence of Marijuana is the same as driving under the influence of alcohol. Consuming marijuana alters human thinking capabilities. It slows the physical moments of the body and also the thinking process of the brain.


5) Affects the heart-

Consuming marijuana in any form increases the speed of the heartbeat. This intern increases the level of anxiety in a person and causes paranoia, that leads to various health issues. It also affects the mental stability of a person by altering their knowledge of reality. For a person under the influence of cannabis, even the daily activities feel extremely difficult due to the increase in the speed of the heartbeat.



The misuse of marijuana has increased drastically over the couple of years affecting specifically the youth on a large scale. This is one of the primary reasons why the use and sale of cannabis have come under strict regulations. The illegal sale of marijuana is another major problem as massive stockpiles of cash transaction takes place without the knowledge of the government.
